In keeping with our tradition, Tech Chantier proudly hosted the 4th edition of our annual Tech Bootcamp from December 12th to 14th, 2024. This year, we welcomed a remarkable total of 54+ young (more than double the size of cohort 3), energetic and aspiring participants from Universities and Institutes of Higher Learning in Buea and Limbe, all ready to dive into the rapidly evolving world of technology.
Over the three days, participants immersed themselves in a robust curriculum, starting with a revision of JavaScript and a deep dive into the foundations of React and React Native. The training began with foundational concepts because why not, progressing to more advanced topics on web and mobile app dev with React [Native], ensuring each participant understood how to build responsive and high-performance applications.
The boot camp was facilitated by our main trainer, Eng Fongoh Tayong, alongside five dedicated co-trainers who provided invaluable support and insights to participants throughout the sessions. Their expertise and experience helped guide participants by assisting them solve bugs and pointing out all minor and major issues that caused their code not to run, fostering an environment of collaboration and learning.
Following the intensive training, participants have just entered Phase 2, which includes a two-week intensive training on advanced concepts followed by a two-month online mentorship program. During this time, they will apply their newly acquired skills to execute real-world projects from start to finish, receiving guidance and feedback from industry experts. This phase not only enhances their learning experience but also prepares them for the job market.
One of the standout features of this year’s boot camp was the notable increase in diversity among participants. With a significant number of female attendees, the event marked a positive trend towards inclusivity in tech. This year, we were thrilled to see a significant increase in female participation joining the boot camp. This reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity in tech, providing equal opportunities for all aspiring developers.
While the boot camp has seen great success, challenges remain. Limited resources and space restrict our ability to accommodate more participants, highlighting the ongoing need for sponsorship and mentorship opportunities. Despite these hurdles, the React/React Native Cohort 4 Bootcamp in Buea stands as a testament to our commitment to nurturing the next generation of tech talent.
We appreciate everyone’s participation and look forward to seeing the incredible projects that emerge from this year’s bootcamp!
Stay tuned for updates and success stories from our talented cohort.
Big thank you to all our partners who made this possible, we appreciate you.
